Appearance:
Canon portrait, fanart. Eiki is a fairly tall young woman with a petite figure, grey eyes, and asymmetrically-cropped green hair. She's always seen in her Enma crown, a gold-plated thing with ribbons and ruffles, and her standard uniform--a blue, black, and white dress with ribbons tied everywhere, white socks and loafers. Though she does occasionally trade in the socks/loafers for black thigh-highs and Mary Janes. The Rod of Remorse never leaves her hand.
Abilities:
Eiki, quite simply, is a godmodder. It's understandable, though, as she is a Yama, a lord of hell/judge of all souls, higher than every god on the metaphorical food chain. She exists outside the cycle of reincarnation, and her divine nature prevents her from ever getting significantly injured; she's a kind of immortal, able to instantly regenerate on the off-chance something does ever penetrate her divine barriers. She's able to instantly go back and forth between Hell, Purgatory, and Earth as she wishes, and is immune to time/time magic. TL;DR, she is your local friendly Deus Ex Machina, simply because there is no limit to what she can do: healing, barriers, sealing/unsealing, anything. However, her morality prevents her from ever wanting to actually harm someone with these powers, and she usually keeps them to herself.Personality:
Specific to her Yama duties, though, is her ability to see in black and white. This is based on the Buddhist concepts of "good" and "bad" and pertain to a person's nature--for example, she told the youkai Yuuka Kazami to terrorize more humans, as that is the nature of a youkai; because Yuuka wasn't doing enough terrorizing, she was 'black'. She told the miko Reimu Hakurei to exterminate more youkai, as it is Reimu's job to exterminate youkai--and because she wasn't doing so, she was 'black'. Eiki is able to sense whether or not a person is inherently 'black' or 'white'. Because of this, Eiki is naturally neutral in nature.
Her "Rod of Remorse" that she always carries is ordinarily just a fancy gold stick. But when she charges her power into it, and focuses on a specific person, she rod takes on the combined sins of the person, literally increasing its weight to the amount that a person has 'sinned', ranging from a good-hearted person's being only a pound, to a particularly nasty person's being several tons. Eiki herself can seemingly always hold the rod despite its weight. In combination with this, she wields the Cleansed Crystal Mirror, a tool that supposedly echoes the sins of whoever is looking into it. Eiki can send the reflection of the person in the mirror, or the reflection of a person they've wronged out of the mirror and into the physical world, attacking the person in question.
And like all characters in Touhou, Eiki can fly and uses curtain-shower bullets (always non-lethal) when doing non-serious battles.
Neutrality. If there ever was a word to describe Eiki, it would be that. Because that's what her design is. She is a Yama, or a lord of hell, one of the judges of all souls. It is her job to decide where all the souls of Gensokyo end up: if they've followed the right path, or if they've sinned. There is no gray area to Eiki--you're either in the black or you're in the white. She has no true moral alignment: she tells the human protagonist to go exterminate more youkai, and she tells a youkai opponent to go terrorize more humans.
She takes her job as an Enma quite seriously. It's stated that hell, in her area, works a lot like a business corporation. There's demotions and promotions, and its members even get vacations. Eiki never uses her vacations to actually relax. She usually spends them going out of her way to seek out those with particularly bad karma, and tell them that unless they change their ways, they will get sent to hell.
She is somewhat notorious around Gensokyo as being a massive lecturer; most youkai go out of their way to avoid her. If you happen upon her, she will start out a long speech of what, exactly, you've done wrong and what your punishment might or will be. With this, though, she actually carries a large amount of compassion for the beings she's charged with presiding over. She does not want to send anyone to hell--she merely has to. She tries her hardest to help those with bad karma reform and change the errors of their ways. And to those not in the wrong, she can be a perfectly pleasant person, holding casual conversations and regular interests.
Eiki's temper can sometimes get the better of her, though, as reserved as she usually is. She holds her assisstant, Komachi, to incredibly high standards despite Komachi being the laziest person in the entirety of Gensokyo. And when she meets someone utterly rebellious, utterly against everything she stands for, she can become quite harsh. It's worth mentioning, though, that Eiki's type of anger is very reserved and strained, as opposed to all out fury.
Once vice Eiki herself can be guilty of, though, is pride. She's a lord of hell. She's higher up on the foodchain than a god; gods can die, Eiki cannot. She holds a tremendous amount of both spiritual and physical power, and she knows it. She does not ever bother to belittle herself or her abilities, and will do whatever it takes to hold her job steady. When Komachi let the flower-viewing festival accident go unnoticed, Eiki became embarrassed and angry, and set out to correct her assistant's laziness.
History:
Eiki was once a jizou statue, a type of boddhisattva in Buddhism, particularly a type assigned with watching over small children and infants. Eiki had gained enough faith from the people in her area, and was promoted into proper sentience and mobility by her senior lords of hell, into a lord of hell herself. For many years, she simply sat quietly and did her job. She acquired an assistant, a shinigami named Komachi Onozuka, and although Komachi was bad at her job and rather lazy, Eiki did not seek to replace her.
Her main, on-camera role was in Phantasmagoria of Flower View. Every sixty years, however, an incident would occur. The flowers in the world of the living would bloom profusely, even if they were just simple buds, just planted, and it wasn't their season. Many thought this simply an odd force of nature. However, the true cause was Komachi's negligence culminating, the souls she failed to collect building up in extreme levels. Having no place to really go, the souls took refuge in the fields, inhabiting the flowers and forcing them to bloom. Eiki eventually manages to track down Komachi and properly punishes her, but not before running into the player characters, and lecturing them about their own faults.
She plays a background role in the rest of the games, appearing as a high-level boss in Shoot the Bullet., wherein she is photographed and interviewed by Aya Shameimaru for the latter's newspaper.
Roleplay Sample - Log:
It was odd. That was the only word she could use to describe it properly. What sort of godlike being was this place constructed by? No, it had to have been higher than a god. She was higher than a god, and this force was higher than she. How did work, how did it manage to do these incredible things? She wondered it deeply, and it occurred to her she wanted to know more than anything else. She had the urge to investigate, to take it apart like a machine, to unwind its cogs.Roleplay Sample - Journal:
And what was "it", anyways? Was it the computer she heard so much about, the one named Val? Was it the station itself? She scoffed at the idea of a simple man-made pile of metal could manage to reign in most of her powers and snuff them out like a flame, with a regular iron collar, even. Was this machine a creator, a pioneer of mankind as a whole? It had to be something like that. There was no logical explanation otherwise...
Because, of course, she refused to believe that something like this wretched universe was simple the greater pocket holding her own. Something like that was ludicrous, a fairytale. And Eiki Shiki was not a storyteller by far.
[text post]This game includes horrible mental and physical torture of your character. After reading the rules/faq for clarification, how do you expect your character to handle this and continue to function?
Hello. My name is Eiki Shiki, Yamaxanadu. It seems I've been placed into this strange setting without proper notification or explanation. It gives the feel of a sterile hospital or research facility, but I cannot give a proper observation. It would seem this strange collar is restricting most of my powers. It is a different color than others I have seen. Is there some significance to this?
Likewise, who is this individual referred to as "Val"? I have many other questions, if any are willing to answer.
Thank you, and do have a nice day.
Eiki is normally very mentally stable, as a nigh deistic being like herself is expected to be. She is logical and calm-headed, and in situations like whatever Fac would toss her way, she would use those skills to her advantage. While I think things would get to her eventually, especially the whole "you're a clone" thing and the restriction of her powers, she'll be able to hold herself together.Questions? Comments? Crazed and creative statements? Those go here. I fully expect her to be nerfed like woah, considering her powers. Come at her, bros.
